Vader, Nightrage, Bloodthorn, 2006-11-18
21/11/06 || Lord K Philipson
Vader in Örebro. That’s about as unreal as having Peter Forsberg nude in yer livingroom a Monday night. Or Tuesday night for that matter. Anyways, due to working we didn’t see all that much of Norwegian openers Bloodthorn so it wouldn’t be fair to judge their performance all that much. Starting at 21:30 means very few people in attendance since no one goes out that early. Bloodthorn didn’t care and sure had those heads spinning relentlessly while throwing out some decent death metal. But as mentioned, can’t say too much about their performance so I won’t rate them.
Nightrage is a different story. I actually had the time to watch these guys for a bit. While not being a huge fan of their albums I need to take a good listen to them again and see why, their performance really impressed me a lot. Vicious metal, competent as fuck and with a really good sound, Nightrage definitely delivered. Having a vocalist with a Meshuggah-tattoo in the back of his neck (see photo somewhere in here) is kinda metal as well. A few more people had showed up and really seemed to enjoy themselves during Nightrage’s set. I would probably have liked them even more had I listened more closely to them in the past. I’ll definitely give them another try, they deserve it. Nightrage gets a 7,5 out of 10
And then comes fucken Vader. The Polish legends. These guys are not
just a band, they are a fucken machine of sheer and utter
professionalism and brutality. Sporting one of the best sounds I have
ever heard live, Vader almost brought motherfucken tears to my eyes.
When they went into the intro of “This is the war” I would have sold one
of my sisters (preferably the ugliest one) to make time stop right
there. In between playing their best material from the later Vader era
they threw in some, to me, more unknown tunes from their earlier
records. The bottom line is, it all sounded fantastic. Vader takes a
piss on the majority of death metal bands when it comes to gigs, I know
that now. Bands like Morbid Angel and the likes got absolutely shit on
Vader. The Poles destroys everything in sight with such precision it’s
fucken scary. One of the best gigs I have seen in 33 years.
Vader gets a fucken 9 out of 10.
Not only are Vader one of the best bands around today, they are also completely down to earth people, and that goes for their tour manager and crew as well. Club Aska fucken salute them.
And the afterparty? We hung around and had a few beers and drinks with all the bands but it wasn’t much of a afterparty in that sense. Eventually everyone but me and my Aska-colleague Fox had to leave the club and go to the nightliner. That left us with the owner of Satin and we did our best as always to keep the Aska spirit going. At 05:30 in the morning it was time to go home, pissdrunk and beat. We can’t really grab a score this time since the bands were forced to leave. It doesn’t matter though, we would have beaten them all anyways, as always.
Club Aska vs The Bands: Still 3-0.
Actually, it’s 4-0, but since we never got around to do a review of the
Ruin/Relentless gig, we won’t claim that score, even though we ofcourse
won.
We wish to thank all of the bands for giving us a night to fucken remember and for being completely cool. We also wanna thank our friends from Ruin, Einar and Tobbe, for being ready to work as stage-security if needed. The same goes for Anders. Also thanx to Seide and Alex for helping us out with putting up posters. We salute all of you as well. Also, kudos to all the people that showed up, supporting Aska. We didn’t get as much people as we would have hoped for, thanx to Iron Maiden playing the same day. You fucken idiots chose the wrong show, just so you know.
